Who is SolveTrace designed for?

Serious secondary-school students practising contest-style mathematics, including AMC-style, CEMC-style and COMC-style problem solving. The current beta library is small and focused on counting and probability; it does not cover a full contest syllabus.

Does SolveTrace provide contest questions?

The beta includes a starter problem library. Sources are shown where available. The included seed problems are SolveTrace originals, not an official contest archive. Unseen transfer problems are held back for independent testing.

How is this different from an AI tutor?

The central task is reviewing a missed attempt, then testing the repair independently. There is no open-ended tutor chat. AI proposes a reasoning diagnosis; you review it, complete a targeted prompt and return for retry and transfer work.

Why don't I immediately see the solution?

Your first interpretation of the miss is useful evidence. SolveTrace asks you to record it, or explicitly skip it, before opening the reference solution. That keeps your initial view separate from what seems obvious after reading the answer.

What is a cold retry?

The original problem, attempted independently later without your prior approach, diagnosis or reference solution on screen. It checks re-solving, not mastery.

What is an unseen transfer problem?

A different problem that tests a related idea. Near transfer changes the surface, medium transfer weakens the cues, and far transfer changes the setting substantially. Suitable problems must be available and still unseen. A failed attempt does not advance its transfer level.

Can parents see student progress?

Yes, after the student shares a one-use linking code from Account settings. A parent sees read-only summaries and weekly reports. They cannot submit answers or change diagnoses. Students can remove a parent's access.

Does AI decide what I have mastered?

No. AI proposes a diagnosis you can confirm or correct. The profile uses confirmed review history and recorded retry and transfer outcomes. Model confidence is not a mastery percentage, and insufficient evidence is shown explicitly.

Can SolveTrace make mistakes?

Yes. A short description can omit important reasoning, and AI may misclassify an attempt. Compare the proposal with your work and correct it where needed. When analysis is unavailable, your attempt remains saved and you can record your own diagnosis.

What data does the beta use?

Your account stores your name, username and email. Learning history includes answers, written approaches, confidence, reviews and retry/transfer results. AI diagnosis sends relevant problem and attempt information to the configured model provider. Avoid including personal details in your written approach.

Other students cannot read your history. Linked parents see summaries; authorized administrators can access application records. Passwords are hashed. Model reasoning traces are not stored by the application.

This is a description of current product behavior, not a promise about the provider's retention policy. Deployment-specific privacy terms, retention and deletion arrangements must be established before a public pilot collects student data.

Is there a subscription or payment step?

No payment step is implemented in this beta. You can create an account directly. Future pricing has not been announced here.

Will I need to verify my email?

Yes. Open the verification link sent after registration before signing in. Links expire after 24 hours. If delivery fails, your account is kept and you can request another link from the check-email screen.

Is SolveTrace affiliated with a contest organization?

No affiliation with AMC, MAA, CEMC or the University of Waterloo is claimed. SolveTrace is an independent product.
